U.S. Stock-Index Futures Advance; Lehman Brothers, Adobe Gain

Sept. 18 (Bloomberg) — U.S. stock-index futures advanced and European shares rallied after profit at Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc. exceeded analyst estimates and investors speculated the Federal Reserve will cut interest rates.

PSE temporarily halts trading as stocks suffer heavy losses

MANILA, Philippines - For the first time in the 81-year existence of stock trading in the country, the Philippine Stock Exchange on Monday has temporarily halted the session in a bid to calm the frantic sell-off in local shares, which sent the main index falling by more than a tenth of its value.

Stocks to Open Lower

Stocks were set to open lower on Tuesday after Monday's rally as a higher-than-expected reading on a key gauge of wholesale-level inflation raised some fears that the Federal Reserve would move more aggressively to stem inflation.

Fairfax files $5B-US lawsuit against hedge funds alleging stock manipulation

TORONTO (CP) - Fairfax Financial Holdings Ltd. (TSX:FFH.SV) is seeking $5 billion US in damages from a number of U.S. hedge funds, alleging they participated in a stock-market manipulation scheme that has "severely harmed" the insurance giant.
