NEW YORK, Oct 7 (Reuters) - U.S. stocks snapped a four-day losing streak on Friday, enjoying a boost from government data showing smaller-than-expected job losses in September and the Nasdaq getting a jump in Gilead Sciences Inc. shares tied to avian flu fears.
Stocks rose Wednesday afternoon, pushing the Dow Jones industrial average within a whisper of its record closing high, before the world's most widely watched stock market gauge pulled back.
